The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) is the global governing body for all forms of
volleyball, overseeing the sport at the highest level across indoor, beach, and emerging formats
worldwide. Established in 1947, the organization was created to unify the sport under a single
international structure and has since become one of the largest global sporting federations,
representing over 200 national associations.
Headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, the FIVB operates at the center of the international
volleyball ecosystem—working alongside continental confederations, national federations, and
global partners to regulate competition, standardize rules, and grow the game across all levels.
The organization is also a key part of the Olympic Movement, playing a central role in delivering
volleyball and beach volleyball events on the world’s biggest stage.
Through premier global competitions—including the Volleyball World Championships, Volleyball
Nations League, and Beach Volleyball World Tour—the FIVB has helped transform volleyball
into one of the most widely played and watched sports worldwide. Its events and initiatives have
elevated the sport into a major international entertainment product, combining elite performance
with global media reach.
Beyond competition, the FIVB focuses on long-term development through programs such as
Volleyball Empowerment, investing in athletes, federations, and infrastructure to expand the
sport’s global footprint. This commitment to growth has helped volleyball reach hundreds of
millions of participants and fans across continents.
At its core, the FIVB represents the global standard of volleyball—driving innovation,
competition, and accessibility while shaping the future of the sport on an international stage.
